Basic Reserve Officer Training
The purpose of this program is to acquaint trainees with the skills and knowledge
needed to perform the duties and
responsibilities of a reserve officer.

- Traffic Stops
- Domestic Violence Training/Scene Approach
- Legal – Introduction • First Aid/CPR
- Defensive Tactics: Mechanics of Arrest
- Unexplained Death, Crime Scene Management
- Legal II
- Crimes Against Persons
Eligibility: Candidates will be admitted upon the written recommendation of a Chief, Director or Sheriff of a law enforcement agency, and will be subject to the rules and regulations of the Oakland Police Academy during the training sessions.
Required Equipment: Trainees must provide sidearm and leather gear.
All students must have:
- Duty Type Firearm: No sub-compact weapons
- Duty type holster with at-least a Level I retention.
- Any higher retention level is not required or recommended
- 3 magazines
- Double magazine pouch. Triple would be approved
- Hat
Course Details:
- DATES: September 7 - December 16, 2023
- TIME: 6:45 am - 10:00 am & Saturdays 8:00 am - 4:30 pm (Some Saturdays will be 9:00 am - 5:00 pm)
- COSTS: $725.00 – if the Oakland Police Academy provides ammunition
