The purpose of this program is to acquaint trainees with the skills and knowledge needed to perform the duties and responsibilities of a reserve officer.

  • Domestic Violence Training/Scene Approach
  • Legal – Introduction • First Aid/CPR
  • Defensive Tactics: Mechanics of Arrest 
  • Unexplained Death, Crime Scene Management
  • Legal II
  • Crimes Against Persons

Eligibility: Candidates will be admitted upon the written recommendation of a Chief, Director or Sheriff of a law enforcement agency, and will be subject to the rules and regulations of the Oakland Police Academy during the training sessions.

Required Equipment: Trainees must provide sidearm and leather gear.

All students must have:

  • Duty Type Firearm: No sub-compact weapons
  • Duty type holster with at-least a Level I retention.
  • Any higher retention level is not required or recommended
  • 3 magazines
  • Double magazine pouch. Triple would be approved
  • Hat
