OAKLAND COUNTY, Michigan – 143 incoming students at Oakland Community College are getting a head start on their higher education experience. These students will enter the fall semester at OCC with full tuition and fees covered their first year by the College’s Chancellor’s Scholarship award.
At least one student from each Oakland County public or private high school and Adult Education/Alternative Education Center was eligible to be awarded $2,500 ($1,250 for the fall semester and $1,250 for the winter semester). This covers full tuition and fees for the first academic year following high school, or qualified adult education/alternative education center graduation.
The total number of Chancellor's Scholarship award applications increased this year by 30 percent and actual awardees more than doubled from the previous academic year from 56 high school students and 10 adult education students in 2015-16 to 128 high school students and 15 Adult education students entering in 2016-17.
To be eligible, students must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher and be a current Oakland county public or private high school student when they apply.
"We are pleased with the level of talent and initiative these Oakland County high school and adult education awardees bring as they begin their larger career goals," said Chancellor Timothy Meyer. "By offering these scholarships, we provide new students the much needed support and opportunity to successfully launch their careers at OCC."
