Last year, Platinum Educational Group launched its inaugural scholarships program geared at EMS students. The company has since expanded its product line to include the nursing and allied health fields and its 2016 scholarships program to support students obtaining higher education in these healthcare industries.
According to Platinum CEO Doug Smith, the scholarship program goal is to provide students entering the EMS, nursing and allied health fields with assistance funding his or her education. A former high school teacher and paramedic, Smith says, "With the rising costs of tuition and program fees, it's an honor to assist others embarking on their dream of providing needed healthcare services to our communities."
Platinum's 2016 Allied Health scholarship was awarded to Oakland Community College student Samantha Spiewak. Spiewak is enrolled in OCC's Surgical Technician program. After graduation, the Farmington Hills resident plans to work for two years as a CST then go back to school to become a Certified Surgical First Assistant. "My dream is to work in trauma, where only the most prepared and capable CSTs and CSFAs work, ready for any case" stated Spiewak.
In 2016 Platinum Educational Group offered three $1000 scholarships, with plans to expand its scholarship program offerings in the near future.
"As we continue to expand our company's software programs to include the Allied Health, Nursing, and Fire Science industries, alongside our EMS products, we also look to develop several scholarship awards to include those fields," specified Platinum's COO and co-founder Tom Gottschalk. He also stated, "It just feels good to give back."
