OAKLAND COUNTY, Michigan – The Oakland Fire Training Institute at Oakland Community College (OCC) is hosting a free orientation session for the Fire Academy on August 16, 2017.
“The Oakland Fire Training Institute is a well-known and well-respected training entity in the fire service community. Fire Chiefs from across this region tell us when they hire a graduate from this Academy, they are hiring a top-notch fire fighter," shares David Ceci, OCC's interim dean of emergency services (non-traditional) and director of law enforcement training. "These Chiefs recognize our graduates have an exceptional level of basic knowledge, having learned from active professionals in the field, which their department can further build upon."
The Oakland Fire Training Institute at OCC is the only nationally and internationally ProBoard accredited fire academy in the State of Michigan. Successful graduates of the Fire Academy at OCC can be certified as fire fighters throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe.
The Fire Academy runs from August 28 through November 10, 2017 and meets Mondays through Fridays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Auburn Hills Campus and its Combined Regional Emergency Services Training (CREST) facility. Students will receive training in all aspects of firefighting, including hazardous materials, vehicle extrication, emergency vehicle operations, CPR and more.
According to Ceci, OCC's CREST facility offers students opportunities to train in real world, real time situations. "This hands-on experience means our students are exceptionally well prepared when they are hired to work in our communities. These graduates hit the ground ready to go and are a cut above the rest. It truly increases their likelihood of being hired by a Fire Department after graduation."
OCC's Fire Academy orientation is August 16, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at the Auburn Hills Campus CREST Facility, Room 118, 2900 Featherstone Rd, Auburn Hills. To reserve a spot or for more information, call (248) 232-4581.
