OAKLAND COUNTY, Michigan - Oakland Community College has a new athletic director with long-time Raider’s coach and former athlete, Jamie Corona. She joined OCC’s athletic department as staff in 2007.
Corona started as an OCC student athlete playing softball and studying Liberal Arts and later transferred to Saginaw Valley State University on a softball scholarship. In 2007, Corona earned a Bachelor degree in secondary education with a major in English and a minor in physical education from Saginaw Valley.
She returned to OCC as an assistant softball coach in August 2007 and named head coach in 2008. Under her leadership, OCC's women softball team won four conference championships and earned multiple appearances in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Championship Tournament. In addition to coaching, Corona was also part-time building manager at OCC's Auburn Hills Campus.
OCC's athletic teams – the Raiders – are members of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) and Michigan Community College Athletic Association (MCCAA). The College has women and men's athletic teams in cross-country and basketball as well as women's volleyball and softball, and men's golf. Collectively, the OCC Raiders have 60 conference and 20 state championships.
