OAKLAND COUNTY, Michigan — End a week of learning with some calorie burning and in the process do something
healthy for worthy Oakland County charities.
The entire Oakland Community College community—students, faculty and staff—is invited to participate in the 3rd Annual OCC 5K Run/Walk, from 9 a.m. to noon Friday, October 12, at the OCC Orchard Ridge Campus, 27055 Orchard Lake Road in Farmington Hills. The event is hosted by Oakland Early College, housed on the Orchard Ridge Campus.
The fee to participate is a donation to one or more of six partnering charities—the latest initiative in OCC’s “Our Campus Cares for Oakland County Charities.” This year’s charities, along with their wish lists, are:
- Gleaners Community Food Bank: Nonperishable food.
- Lighthouse of Oakland County: Toiletries and paper products.
- Michigan Humane Society: Pet products and gently used towels.
- National Council of Jewish Women: Gently used shoes and clothes.
- Orchards Children’s Services: New school supplies.
- Sweet Dreamzzz: Full-size toothbrush and toothpaste.
Donations may be dropped off at the check-in table in front of the A building on the morning of the race. Donation bins are also located throughout the campus leading up to the day of event.
Check-in begins at 9:15 a.m., with the run/walk starting at 9:45 a.m.
All participants will receive a T-shirt and pizza following the event. Participants in the previous two run/walk events will also earn a patch.
