OAKLAND COUNTY, Michigan – When the Palace closed its doors last year, OCC opened its doors to the area’s annual Patriot Blood Drive, honoring the fallen heroes of 9/11.
“The need for blood is constant and only volunteer donors can fulfill that need for
family, friends and neighbors in our community,” said event coordinator Marikay Clancy,
OCC associate dean of student services.
According to the American Red Cross, someone needs a unit of blood every 2 to 3 seconds and most of us will need blood in our lifetime.
The blood drive will be held on Sept. 6 at OCC’s Auburn Hills campus, 2900 Featherstone Rd., building H, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. All presenting donors have a chance to win a YMCA membership, Free Chiropractic care, a Royal Park stay, free T shirts, free sandwich coupons and more.
“I am an O-universal donor as was my father and brother. We grew up knowing the importance of supporting the vital efforts of the Red Cross – 1 hour to save 3 lives is easy math,” Clancy said.
“OCC’s students, faculty, staff and community, have been so responsive to these drives that we regularly exceed the annual blood support of 4-year schools. We hope to exceed our participation this year to meet the dire need in our community.”
