OAKLAND COUNTY, Michigan — Oakland Community College is welcoming new and returning students and employees later this month with a free celebration picnic on each of its multi campus system:
- Monday, Sept. 24, 11 a.m.-1 p.m., Highland Lakes Campus, Woodland Hall
- Tuesday, Sept. 25, 11 a.m.-1 p.m., Southfield Campus
- Tuesday, Sept. 25, 3:30-5:30 p.m., Royal Oak Campus
- Wednesday, Sept. 26, 11 a.m.-1 p.m., Auburn Hills Campus, Student Center
- Thursday, Sept. 27, 12:30-2:30 p.m., Orchard Ridge Campus, Student Center
- Friday, Sept. 28, 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m., District Office, Bloomfield Hills
Events at the Highland Lakes, Southfield, Auburn Hills and Orchard Ridge campuses will include the annual resource and volunteer fair. OCC will provide free hamburgers, veggie burgers, chips, pop, water and ice cream. OCC’s bookstore and Marketing and Community Relations Department will supply new Excellence Empowered. giveaways.

Inauguration of Chancellor
Also during this week, OCC will host the inauguration of Chancellor Peter M. Provenzano Jr. His investiture as OCC’s ninth chancellor will take place Thursday, Sept. 27, at 5:30 p.m. during a ceremony in the Smith Theatre on the Orchard Ridge campus in Farmington Hills, Mich.
Honoring Provenzano through a combination of live and broadcast remarks will be Governor Rick Snyder; Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson; Macomb County Deputy Executive Al Lorenzo; Walsh President Marsha Kelliher; Barton Malow Chairman Doug Maibach; Michigan Schools and Government Credit Union President/CEO Peter Gates; OCC Faculty Chair John Mitchell; and student speaker and PTK President Sydney Lawson. Joining in the processional will be executives from Macomb Community College, Eastern Michigan University, Wayne State University, Walsh College, Oakland Schools, Oakland Early College as well as OCC Board of Trustees, college officers and academic deans.
Paul W. Smith of WJR AM 760 will be the master of ceremonies.
The OCC Board of Trustees approved Provenzano’s appointment Jan. 1 after he served briefly as interim chancellor. The 2018 fall semester marks Provenzano’s first full academic year as chief executive officer. He joined the college in 2014 as vice chancellor of administrative services. Before joining OCC, he served in leadership positions in Macomb County government, earning many awards and top recognitions.
