For OCC student, a place close to home in more ways than one

Natalie TurnerOAKLAND COUNTY, MichiganNatalie Turner chose to attend Oakland Community College because it was close to home — and then discovered her classrooms offered a similar welcoming feeling.

“I chose to go to OCC for the interior-design program, and because of its location,” says Turner, who lives in Waterford Township near the Highland Lakes campus. “It’s easy to get to. It just makes my life a lot easier being able to be so close to home.”

That sense of closeness extends to class size, Turner says.

“The interior design program is very well-put-together. You know everyone. You get to know the teacher really well. And, she understands your learning style. With the small class size, she gets to learn how to work with you.”

“I like the small class size because I need the one-on-one; I need to know how the instructor thinks I’m doing so I can work and build on that to do better as a student. And I like how I can work around my schedule and take the classes that I need.”

According to Turner, the flexibility at OCC has made her life a lot easier with scheduling, tutoring and connecting with faculty if she need something to succeed. “She’s always available to have a meeting with me and talk about things.”
