OCC Again Receives National Honors for Budget and Financial Planning

Awards for OCC’s Budget and Financial Planning excellence are adding up.

The Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) recently awarded OCC with a Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for the College’s Fiscal Year 2024-2028 Five-Year Budget and Financial Forecast document, the highest award in governmental budgeting. The Budget and Financial Planning department also received a Certificate of Recognition for Budget Presentation from the GFOA.

Budget Award

According to the GFOA, the award represents a significant achievement by the entity. It reflects the commitment of the governing body and staff to meeting the highest principles of governmental budgeting. According to OCC’s Director of Budget and Financial Planning, Renee Oszust, OCC was required to rigorous stringent nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation in order to receive the budget award.

The College also received two other recent awards from the GFOA: A Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for its Annual Comprehensive Financial Report, and an Award for Outstanding Achievement for the College’s Popular Annual Financial Report (PAFR).

OCC is one of only a few community colleges in Michigan to earn these national awards.

“Participation in GFOA’s award program reflects OCC’s continued commitment to best practices in governmental budgeting and dedication to budget transparency,” Oszust said. “Annually, with input and support from throughout the College, a comprehensive document is developed with the goal of presenting a financial plan designed to foster student success.”
