Petition for Tuition Refund

IMPORTANT NOTES:

A Petition for Tuition Refund form must be submitted during or immediately following the semester for the class(es) in question.  Classes for which a petition is being sought must have been officially dropped by the student.  A petition cannot be sought if an "N" mark or a final grade was received in the class.

A decision letter will be emailed to your OCC student email within two (2) to four (4) weeks after submission of your complete Petition.

If your Petition is approved, the refund will be processed within six (6) weeks.

Reasons for Petition for Tuition Refund

Medical disability (for student or their immediate family- defined as spouse, child or parent)

What supportive documentation do I need to submit with my petition?

A letter from your doctor on their office letterhead (prescription pads not accepted). Please DO NOT submit your personal medical records. The physician letter must include the following:

  • Your name and birth date; or your OCC student identification number
  • Dates of your medical disability
  • That you will be unable to attend class(es) due to your medical disability
  • If based on an immediate family member’s medical disability, why you will be unable to attend your current class(es) due to the circumstances
What is the maximum refund I can receive? 
  • 50% of tuition only (no refund of Student Support Fee).

Mandatory work shift change, job transfer, or relocation

What supporting documentation do I need to submit with my petition? 
A letter from your employer on their company or business letterhead stating:

  • Your name and birth date; or your OCC student identification number
  • The date of your shift change/transfer/call back
  • Your prior and current work schedules (actual days and hours scheduled)
  • That your work schedule change is mandatory
  • That you will be unable to attend your current class(es) due to that reason

What is the Maximum refund I can receive?

  • 50% of tuition only (no refund of Student Support Fee).

Death of a student’s immediate family member (defined as spouse, child or parent)

What supporting documentation do I need to submit with my petition?
  • Death certificate, or
  • Published obituary / death notice, or
  • Letter from a funeral director on their company letterhead AND
  • A letter from the student explaining their relationship to the deceased
What is the maximum refund I can receive?
  • 100% of tuition only (no refund of Student Support Fee).

Jury Duty

What supporting documentation do I need to submit with my petition?
  • Original documentation from the Court showing your dates of Jury Duty.
What is the maximum refund I can receive?
  • 100% of tuition only (no refund of Student Support Fee).

Military orders to report

What supporting documentation do I need to submit with my petition?

Copy of the call to active duty orders:

  • Dates of the class(es) in question must conflict with the dates of active duty
What is the maximum refund I can receive?
  • 100% tuition and Student Support Fee.

Death of a student

What supporting documentation do I need to submit with my petition?
  • Death certificate, or
  • Published obituary / death notice, or
  • Letter from a funeral director
What is the maximum refund I can receive?
  • 100% refund of tuition and Student Support Fee will be issued to the student’s estate or approved family member, and sent to the address of record.

Mis-advisement by College employee

What supporting documentation do I need to submit with my petition?
  • Details explaining the circumstances of your withdrawal and that it occurred prior to the published last day to drop the class.
What is the maximum refund I can receive?
  • At discretion of respective College Administrator.

College Error 

What supporting documentation do I need to submit with my petition?
  • Details explaining the circumstances of your withdrawal and that it occurred prior to the published last day to drop the class.
What is the maximum refund I can receive?
  • At discretion of respective College Administrator.

Extenuating circumstances 

What supporting documentation do I need to submit with my petition?
  • Any documentation to support your claim. Circumstances of your withdrawal must have occurred prior to the published last day to drop the class.
  • Dissatisfaction with a particular teaching style, lack of knowledge of refund deadlines, and/or disagreement with refund policies are not grounds for a refund.
What is the maximum refund I can receive?
  • At discretion of respective College Administrator.

Instructor issue or conflict

What supporting documentation do I need to submit with my petition?
  • Any documentation to support your claim. Clearly detail the problem with the instructor.
  • Examples include instructor not teaching the catalog description, or excessive absenteeism of the instructor
  • Circumstances of your withdrawal must have occurred prior to the published last day to drop the class.
What is the maximum refund I can receive?
  • At discretion of Academic Dean.
