CONNECT WITH A COUNSELOR
Email
Email assistance is a great option for students who have limited time to connect with
an counselor. Many educational related issues can be dealt with by email. Be aware,
there may be issues which will require working with a counselor by phone appointment.
Note
Use your OCC email account when emailing for counseling assistance. This is required due to federal regulations
that protect your privacy.
Phone
Scheduled phone appointments, like email assistance, is a great option for almost
any educational issue. It is especially helpful if you are new to college or who have
complicated questions. You can set-up an appointment with a counselor by calling the number below. Phone appointments should be no longer than 30 minutes.
Note
A counselor will call you at your appointment time using the phone number we have
on file. If your questions involve accessing your student record, to comply with
FERPA privacy regulations, the counselor will ask a series of questions to verify your identity.
Virtual appointment using Zoom
Zoom is a great option for almost any educational issue. It is especially helpful if you
are seeking to review records, graduation status, transfer plans or other items where
screen sharing helps to clarify information. You can schedule a Zoom appointment with
a counselor by calling one of the numbers below.
Prior to scheduling a ZOOM appointment, be sure to complete:
- MyOCC and student email set-up
- New Student Orientation (new students only)
- Online Readiness Course (if planning to take an online or hybrid course)
- Placement (exemptions are listed in Placement section of website)
- College transcripts received (if attended college elsewhere)
Note
The counselor will send a Zoom session link to your
OCC email account which will become active approximately 5 minutes before your scheduled 30 minute session. To
comply with
FERPA privacy regulations, have your photo identification ready so the counselor can verify your identity before
revealing confidential student record information. Please plan ahead!
ZOOM appointments are not available during peak registration days or as same day sessions.
No Zoom account required, however, you will need a computer with a webcam, a tablet,
or smart phone with a camera. Review Zoom's technical requirements before your session.
