Get Great Employees Through Federal Work Study

Help OCC Students Gain Work Experience

If you run a nonprofit organization, public agency, or business, you can provide valuable work experience to OCC students by participating in the Federal Work-Study program.

The FWS program helps low-income students acquire job skills while earning money for college. Students typically work 10 to 30 hours per week during the school year.

You gain three major benefits by participating in the FWS program:

  • Access to young, enthusiastic employees that you choose through interviews.
  • Reimbursement for 50 percent to 100 percent of the students’ wages.
  • The satisfaction that comes from helping prepare young people for today’s workforce.

How the Program Works

The Financial Aid office administers the Federal Work-Study program at OCC. Here are a few details about the program:

  • Students cannot replace full-time employees.
  • Most employers are reimbursed 50 percent of students’ wages.
  • Family Literacy programs and programs that employ students as reading or math tutors are reimbursed 100 percent of students’ wages.
  • Jobs at for-profit businesses must be related to a student’s declared program of study.
