Times are Changing and so is OCC's Mascot
Thank you for submitting your great suggestions for OCC’s new mascot! Keep an eye on this page, social media and your student email for updates on the mascot selection process.
OCC is launching an inclusive effort to create a new mascot to replace the “Raiders”
and “Rudy the Raider” and better represent our college community and brand today —
and into the future.
OCC's new mascot will encourage student involvement and ownership, beginning with your suggestions on the name and design.
History
The OCC Raiders identity was developed shortly after the college opened in 1965. At that time, the Oakland Raiders were a professional football team that played in Oakland, California. The football team created the now-familiar team emblem of a pirate (or "raider") wearing a football helmet. Because OCC carried the same “Oakland” name, the College selected a Raider/Pirate for its mascot.
That was then. This is now.
OCC students, we are looking for your input to create a new and updated mascot to better represent us: our College values, our students, employees and community. Our new mascot will promote a sense of belonging and inclusion, as well as build college spirit and maybe even bring each of us greater luck.
