In fall and winter semesters the program runs for 15 weeks, twice a week for four hour blocks each day, followed by a two-hour lab. A night section also runs for 15 weeks, meeting three evenings a week in four-hour blocks.

In the summer semester, two EMT courses are offered, beginning just after the OCC Fire Academy ends.  Both of these courses are completed prior to the start of the annual Paramedic program.  The EMT Academy runs for approximately six weeks.  This program is accelerated and meets Monday through Friday from 9:00 am - 5:00 pm, followed by approximately three weeks of clinical shifts.  Our Traditional Summer EMT course begins the same time as the Academy but runs for 15 weeks, twice a week for four hour blocks each day, followed by a two-hour lab.  Required courses are listed as follows and are recommended to be taken concurrently.  Students must be accepted into the program and attend an orientation prior to registration.  Part time academic schedules must be approved by the Program Director.

Upon completion of the Basic EMT courses, the student will be eligible to take the national Registry exam to qualify for state licensing as a EMT-Basic.
